Phnom Penh, June 25 (VNA) - Work on a project to upgrade a 51-km section of Cambodia's National Highway 2 started at Pech Sang commune, Koak Andeth district, Takeo province, on Tuesday.
The Japanese-funded project was built by Viet Nam's Civil Engineering Construction Corporation 1 (CIENCO 1).
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed that the project will make an important contribution to boosting Cambodia's economy in general and Takeo province's in particular.
The highway upgrading will also prompt a change in Viet Nam-Cambodia trade exchange, helping enhance the two countries' economic relations as well as economic cooperation between ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) members and the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), he said.-Endditem
